 Manchester United make a double appointment to the first-team staff


Manchester United has promoted Darren Fletcher to the senior team coaching staff and appoint Robbin Sadler as the head of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.


Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has appointed the former club player Darren Fletcher to the first-team coaching staff.


The former Man United midfielder Fletcher has been working with the club U-16s since October, initially joining the English club in other to get some coaching experience.

But the Norwegian has taken the decision to promote his former teammate to the senior team role as he plans to capitalize on Darren Fletcher's experience of life at Old Trafford and his winning mentality.

The Scotsman came through the Manchester United academy and in 13 years made more than 340 appearances as a senior team player.

He won many trophies at Old Trafford including five Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2008, and one FA Cup with one League Cup.

Fletcher will work with Michael Carrick and Solskjaer as former club players to be working for the Red Devils as a staff and Solskjaer sees that as positive.

'He just starting another aspect of his career which is the coaching career and his experience both as a player and others with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the Red Devils toward our plan to carry many trophies.'

Fletcher hanged his football boot after leaving stoke City in 2019 and the Scottish man has worked as a TV reporter before committing to the coaching path.

Fletcher said when asked by media agent:'I am very happy to be returned to the club as a first-team coach,' he added

'it is a very exciting period for this young team and I am looking forward to making more progress in my coaching career as I work beside Solskjaer and his team of staff.

Manchester United also appoint Robbin Sadler as the head of rehabilitation and physiotherapy, overseeing the first-team, academy, and woman's teams.

Robbin Sadler had many experiences in the field of rehabilitation and physiotherapy after spending 17 years working with Man City and his most recent work was that of Derby County as the head of Physiotherapy.
