BBC pundit says Arsenal man is 'class' compared with 'reckless' teammate

Garth Crooks praised Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey for his play against Sheffield United, describing him as "quality" in comparison to Granit Xhaka, who he described as "reckless."

Partey provided the game-winning pass for Alexandre Lacazette's second goal, completing an outstanding 3-0 victory for the Gunners.

However, the £45 million (Sky Sports) signing from Atletico Madrid has had a hit-or-miss season.

Partey has been unable to get a decent run in the side due to a series of injuries. Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, seems to be free of injury woes and is playing the type of football that many expected of him when he arrived in north London.

For just the second time in his Arsenal career, the Ghana international has started five consecutive league games. ‘Partey played a major role,' says Crooks.

All of these are encouraging signs for Partey, whose Sunday performance earned him a spot in Crooks' BBC team of the week.

“Thomas Partey played a significant role in the Gunners' performance,” the former Tottenham Hotspur forward said.

Since his arrival at Emirates Stadium, the Ghanaian international has been plagued by niggling injuries that have hampered his development.

“His assist for Alexandre Lacazette's second goal demonstrated his class. Partey isn't as rash in midfield as Granit Xhaka, and he's a great passer.” The Gunners need the Ghanaian's services.

Arteta didn't bring Partey in because of his inventiveness. He was an appealing signing because of his box-to-box ability and faith in possession.

With that assist against Sheffield United, Partey showed he has another string to his bow.

The midfielder's weakness is his inability to stay healthy for more than a few months. However, after their FA Cup exit, Arsenal's schedule has become less crowded.

With all eyes on the Europa League now, the Gunners will need Partey to be at his best on Thursday. Arsenal's season will end in a whimper if they fail to win the tie in Prague.
