Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hails two players after Porto Champions League win

Chelsea beat Porto 2-0 on Wednesday, and two of their England players were instrumental in the victory.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell scored one goal each in the first and second halves to give their team two crucial away goals.

Chelsea is now heavy favorites to face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.

Tuchel's team bounced back from a 5-2 Premier League loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

And the German was overjoyed at how well his players responded.

'The end result is fantastic. It was a difficult match against a powerful Porto team "BT Sport quoted Tuchel as saying.

'There were times that we struggled because they are a proud club and a proud team.

'But we embraced it, and I could see how the conditions in a quarter-final are a little different.

'It was a good game at times, but it was also a bad game at times. The spirit, on the other hand, was positive.

'I knew [there would be a reaction to West Brom's defeat] because I saw the reaction in the dressing room after the game. That wasn't a major issue.

'We suffered a significant setback, but we took responsibility for it. We were prepared to respond. In football, there will always be setbacks; the challenge is to come back.'

Mount scored his first Champions League goal after a deft turn on the edge of the 18-yard box and a perfect finish.

Chelsea's night in Seville was capped off by Chilwell's goal, and Tuchel singled out both players after the game.

'I am ecstatic that [Mount] scored," he said.

'It was a crucial goal that helped us open up the game and relax our nerves.

'It wasn't an easy shot, but it was extremely accurate. I am ecstatic for Mason because he accepts accountability.

'Mason is meticulous in his finishing and is always willing to assist us.

'[Ben Chilwell] was outstanding because he maintained his cool to get past the goalkeeper.

'Getting the second away goal was extremely necessary. As I previously said, we lacked a bit of rhythm in our attack, but there was always the possibility of scoring a goal if our opponent made a mistake. He isn't a frequent goal scorer, but I am pleased with the outcome.

'However, it's halftime. "We have to keep moving forward.'

Before the second leg next week, Mount maintains that just half of the job has been completed.

'We knew it was going to be a difficult game,' said the 22-year-old.

'We kept going, scored in the first period, and won a nice win in the second.'
