Jose Enrique left bemused by Jurgen Klopp decision in Liverpool Champions League defeat

Jose Enrique said he was perplexed by Jurgen Klopp's decision to start Naby Keita in Liverpool's loss to Real Madrid last night.

On Tuesday in Spain, Keita, 26, was a surprise inclusion in the Reds starting XI.

The Merseyside club lost 3-1 on the road in their Champions League quarter-final clash, but Mohamed Salah's away goal gave them some hope.

For an impressive Madrid squad that looked the part in the European showdown, Vinicius Junior (two goals) and Marco Asensio were both on the scoresheet.

It'll take another historic night at Anfield to break the tie, but they've done it before, even if Enrique wasn't thrilled with Keita's inclusion in the starting lineup.

The 26-year-old was strangely taken off with a few minutes left in the first half after a poor result, but he wasn't the only one who struggled in the first 45 minutes.

“I don't know why he (Klopp) played Keita when he's only played two 90-minute games in the last six months,” Enrique said live on his Instagram post (6 April).

TBR's Take: Keita's on-again, off-again Anfield career has spilled over into the season, which is frustrating for the manager, the player, and the fans alike.

Individual talent abounds for the African box-to-box central midfielder. Unfortunately, he is finding it difficult to gain any traction.

On Tuesday, Liverpool's midfield was overwhelmed by Madrid's experience, with even the arrival of substitute Thiago Alcantara struggling to turn the tide in Liverpool's favor.
