Report - Man Utd have made contact, £80million would secure signing

Manchester United splashed the cash to sign Eric Bailly in 2016, Victor Lindelof in 2017, and Harry Maguire in 2019, making him the world's most expensive defender.

The Red Devils paid £80 million to carry the England international to Old Trafford from Leicester City (The Guardian).

The 20-time English champions are reportedly interested in signing another center back from the Foxes, according to media reports. Wesley Fofana is the subject of attention this time.

The French starlet joined the King Power outfit last summer in a £30 million deal (Goal), and he has flourished in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers' tutelage.

Man Utd has already made initial contact to recruit the 20-year-old, according to a new article by Foot Mercato.

According to the renowned French outlet, the Red Devils will have to pay the same amount they paid for Maguire (93 million euros) in order to persuade Leicester to sell Fofana. It is also claimed that with the pandemic still present, it is unlikely that Man Utd will be able to match that number.

The former Ligue 1 center-back has played 20 Premier League games for the Foxes, helping them keep seven clean sheets. They are currently third in the table.

Fofana put in a strong display at the back for Leicester yesterday, as they beat Southampton 1-0 to reach the FA Cup final. Chelsea will be their opponent next month.

Maguire, to be honest, hasn't lived up to his price tag. He is the most expensive defender on the planet, but he is far from the best defender. Obviously, spending £80 million on a youngster like Fofana while a world-class talent like Raphael Varane is eligible for only £60 million makes no sense (The Mail).
