Thomas Tuchel gives N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic injury update as Gilmour eyes Man City clash

The team news is always the most important part of any press conference, and today was no exception, with an FA Cup semi-final coming up tomorrow.

Thomas Tuchel wasn't asked for injury updates until much later in his press conference this morning, but when pressed, he had some important news to share.

Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho's full quotes can be found on Football.London:

“We've given N'Golo the green light since we've had three days [of rest] since Tuesday night. Mateo Kovacic and Andreas Christensen have both retired from the game.”

Overall, we have to be happy with the result. We're in a decent spot here, given the terrible injury issues plaguing teams around Europe at this point of the season.

Mateo Kovacic and Andreas Christensen have both been excellent lately, but we have brilliant – maybe even superior – replacements in N'Golo Kante and Thiago Silva.

The concern is that a recently returned Kante will not be able to play for 90 minutes, and there will be no Kovacic on the bench to take his place.

But that might mean it's Billy Gilmour's time to shine.
