Chelsea considering transfer swoop for star who could leave for bargain £26m fee

Chelsea is reportedly considering a move for Wolfsburg center-back Maxence Lacroix as they continue their quest for a new defender.

The Blues could use some defensive reinforcements this summer, and Lacroix appears to be a talented

young player who could provide an improvement over unconvincing performers like Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen, as well as a long-term replacement for the aging Thiago Silva.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is considering Lacroix as a potential replacement for bigger names such as Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.

According to the study, Lacroix could quit Wolfsburg for about £26 million, which would be a steal for the highly regarded 21-year-old.

Lacroix has impressed in the Bundesliga, and the Frenchman might believe it is now time to move on and prove himself at a higher level.

Chelsea supporters will undoubtedly want to see their club have another successful transfer window after demonstrating their optimism with a busy summer last year.

The west London giants don't appear to be far away from becoming legitimate Premier League title challengers, but a signing like Lacroix may be crucial in providing them with more depth and consistency in defense.
