AC Milan is reportedly interested in signing Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud during the summer transfer window.

According to the Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport, AC Milan is interested in signing Olivier Giroud during the summer transfer window.

The French forward is due to leave Chelsea as a free agent, with a Bosman transfer on the cards.

Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018 and has proved to be a valuable asset for each boss he has worked for.

Although he was never a regular for the Blues, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner delivered whenever he was called upon, directly contributing to a goal every 107.5 minutes (39 goals and 14 assists in all).

However, Giroud's time at Chelsea is coming to an end, with his new contract expiring at the start of the summer transfer window.

Despite his advanced age, the French international has attracted attention from Atletico Madrid, AS Roma, Lazio, and Inter Milan, with AC Milan already on his tail.

The Serie A giants' interest makes sense, given that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will turn 40 this year and Mario Mandzukic has struggled to make an impact since joining in the January transfer window.

To make matters worse, Rafael Leao has been inconsistent this season, while Ante Rebic has also been inconsistent.

With that in mind, Giroud is a viable target for AC Milan to consider, considering the fact that the veteran forward is 34 years old. Indeed, playing in Serie A should help the Chelsea striker prolong his career as far as possible while still participating in the UEFA Champions League.

The fact that he would not cost the Rossoneri anything in terms of a transfer fee makes him even more appealing to the Rossoneri.

Chelsea, for one, is looking to strengthen their attack as well, with Harry Kane a top priority going into the summer transfer window.

In terms of Giroud, the seasoned striker seems to be ready for the next stage of his career, which may be in Serie A, where AC Milan is involved.

What remains to be seen is whether San Siro becomes his next destination after leaving Chelsea this summer.
