Chelsea star criticised for being ‘lazy’ during massive win at Man City

After Chelsea's come-from-behind Premier League win over Manchester City on Saturday, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright slammed Timo Werner as "lazy."

The Blues improved their chances of finishing in the top four with a convincing win over their Champions League final opponents at The Etihad. Raheem Sterling put City ahead, but after Sergio Aguero missed a penalty, Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso scored to end the home side's title hopes.

Wright was impressed with Thomas Tuchel's men on Match of the Day. He did, however, believe that striker Werner should have done more to support his team.

“I think Timo Werner is having a good season,” he said.

“Coming to Chelsea with the burden of scoring goals and then missing opportunities... ‘You have to look at the runs he makes. He wants to get back on track here. He refuses to join the cause.

“He has a lot of space. That's all lazy job, in my opinion. He's going almost offside.

“Once he has it sorted out, he'll get more chances, and he'll have to be more clinical.”

“If anyone can work with him on that, there aren't many defenders who can catch him,” Premier League legend Alan Shearer said.
