Dimitar Berbatov sends message to Man Utd over Danny Ings transfer

Manchester United does not need Southampton striker Danny Ings, according to Dimitar Berbatov.

Dimitar Berbatov believes Manchester United does not need Danny Ings and that signing the Southampton striker will be a bad decision.

United has been linked with a number of center-forwards in the build-up to the summer transfer window, including Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland, Tottenham talisman Harry Kane, and, most recently, Ings.

The Saints No.9 has just over a year left on his current contract at St Mary's, with no agreement on an extension insight, and the Red Devils have recently inquired about his situation at the club.

While United has given Edinson Cavani a one-year contract extension until June 2022, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not ruled out the possibility of the club signing a striker this summer.

'No, of course, I can't [rule out bringing in a center-forward],' Solskjaer said earlier this week. ‘Of course,

Edi [Cavani] signed, but how many good strikers have we had at this club?' And I can't tell we're not going to sign a striker because we're trying to build a better team.

'We've been in the top three for two years in a row, but we're still not where we want to be.' We hope to have a stronger squad at the start of next season, to be more reliable, and to challenge the teams ahead of us.'

Ex-Manchester United striker Berbatov, on the other hand, believes Ings is not the Red Devils' reaction at the moment.

‘I see Manchester United have been linked with Southampton and England striker Danny Ings; he is a good player and I really rate him, but I don't think he is what United needs right now,' he told Betfair.

‘At the moment, the club has pretty much everything they need in the striking department, with plenty of experience and pace.'

Edinson Cavani continues to score, proving his worth and demonstrating how wise it was to extend his contract; he scored an incredible goal the other day. ‘With all of this in mind, signing Danny Ings makes no sense to me.'
