The world premiere of a film about Sir Alex Ferguson's life on and off the field took place at Old Trafford, the site of some of his greatest triumphs.

The documentary, Never Give Up, was directed by Jason Ferguson, the son of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and is intended to provide viewers with insight into a man known for his fiery personality and determination.

Mr. Ferguson said at the premiere on Thursday night: "It's about a man's life, you know, the adversity he's encountered personally and professionally in his life, and it's about memories.

"He wanted to be transparent and frank, and he was, though I believe it was difficult for him at times.

"I think the hardest part was when the doctors were being questioned and you were getting details that you weren't sure of at the moment, in terms of, I knew it was serious but I didn't know exactly how serious it was until those interviews were over."

Mr. Ferguson suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2018, and the documentary shows him reflecting on his time in the hospital and how the near-death experience affected him and his loved ones.

He stated: "The NHS was fantastic; I mean, one day I'm walking around Wilmslow and the next day I'm in the hospital and I don't remember anything.

"And obviously, the recovery was fraught at times with, times when you start to think, you get lonely, and you wonder, 'Are they telling you the truth?' and stuff like that, and here I am."

Present Manchester United players such as Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, and Luke Shaw, as well as actor Christopher Eccleston and Manchester United technical director Darren Fletcher, attended the premiere.

"I think he is unique to all of his ex-players; I think he has got a place in all of our hearts because he gave his life for Man United and for us, and of course we gave ours to him as well, and that's maybe one of the greatest compliments I can give him is that we thought we played for him," current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

"He is a role model, I have played and coached under him for 15 years, and now he is still supporting me whenever I need it, and his career can never be matched by anyone, but if you can get somewhere close to that, that's awesome," he added.

Throughout the film, Sir Alex pays tribute to and dedicates his career to his wife, Cathy.

Jason Ferguson described his mother as his father's "rock," adding that she "allowed him to indulge in his obsession."

"She basically raised me and my brothers on her own and made sacrifices to allow him to do what he did," he explained.

On May 29, the film will be released in theaters and on Amazon Prime.
