Arsenal has been linked with a move for Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia yet again, with the Gunners reportedly planning an opening offer for the £40 million-rated attacking midfielder.

Arsenal has renewed its interest in Emiliano Buendia.

According to Goal, the Gunners have increased their interest in the Norwich City attacking midfielder as a replacement for Martin Odegaard, who looks likely to return to Real Madrid after his loan spell expires.

In a boost for Arsenal transfer chief Edu, the Canaries have already hinted at being forced to sell some of their main players in order to finance transfers for new arrivals ahead of the summer window.

"One of them might leave, maybe two, maybe all three, who knows - but the facts are that this team isn't about one or two players," Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber recently told BBC Look East.

"For us to be competitive in the Premier League, it will be how the squad of 20 performs as a whole, not how one player performs brilliantly."

"When we sold James Maddison [to Leicester], everyone thought it was the end of the world, and then a guy called Emi Buendia appeared; when Ben Godfrey left [for Everton], everyone thought it was the end of the world, and then a guy called Ben Gibson appeared, and that's football."

Norwich City values Buendia at about £40 million, and the Gunners are reportedly planning an 'opening offer' for the playmaker.

According to CBS Sports, though no formal bid has yet been submitted, this is expected to change in the coming days.

Furthermore, according to the article, Buendia would be extremely interested in moving to the Emirates Stadium and would be willing to press for a deal to be completed.

The playmaker, who has 15 goals and 17 assists this season in the Championship, has also been credited with a move to Aston Villa.

However, if Arsenal is successful in their pursuit of Buendia, they will be acquiring a player who appears to be a favorite of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

As the midfielder revealed when playing against Barcelona in his Getafe days six years ago, he obviously did anything to catch Messi's eye, who urged him to transfer allegiances from Argentina to Spain.

"Maybe I did something positive to please him," Buendia said to the Guardian. "He inquired, 'What do you want to do?'"

‘Would you rather play for Spain or Argentina?' 'Of course, I want to play for Argentina,' I said quickly. 'I want to play with you – it's a fantasy.'"

Buendia has yet to realize his dream, but he has taken a step closer after being named to the squad for next month's 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia.
