Though Villarreal resisted the Gunners, United lost the second leg of their tie against Roma but advanced to the final as 8-5 aggregate winners.

According to Spanish media, United is in advanced negotiations to sign Torres and hopes to have a contract in place before he competes in this summer's European Championship.

The 24-year-old didn't put a foot wrong against Arsenal and knows he and boyhood club Villarreal will need to give another massive show in Gdansk on May 26 to come out on top.

'We're up against a big club in Manchester United, and we'll have to work very hard to succeed,' he told reporters after defeating Arsenal.

'We joked in the hotel that it couldn't possibly be another all-English final.' Villarreal playing in a European final is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

We've accomplished something important.' Torres said after defeating Arsenal over two legs,

'This is for all the supporters, the club, the team, last year's squad, my village.' We made history by making it to the final, but we're not done yet.

‘It was a tough outcome to get here. They had opportunities tonight. As the boss put it, ‘to get to the final, you have to suffer.' Tonight, instead of tears of disappointment, I'm weeping tears of joy.

Villarreal has had many semi-final chances to make the final, but we have finally achieved it!' In addition to Torres facing his suitors, the Europa League final will pit Eric Bailly against his former side,

Manchester United, after the Ivory Coast international, transferred to United from Villarreal in 2016.
