Mikel Arteta hits out at some Arsenal players over dismal Premier League season

The Arsenal manager feels that some of his players have underperformed this season.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has indicated that some of his players have not provided their all this season.

The Spaniard has hinted for the first time that many first-team players are unable to "evolve" from a certain stage, with Arsenal expected to finish last in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.

On Monday, it was exclusively announced that Arteta and technical director Edu are preparing to overhaul the club's playing staff this summer.

It comes after Arsenal's owner, KSE (Kroenke Sports & Entertainment), promised on an internal staff call that they will support the manager as he looks to improve the first-team squad in many key positions.

New faces are set to arrive, along with a flurry of withdrawals ranging from marginal players to underperforming squad members.

When asked whether he believes his players have given their all this season, Arteta replied:

"Yes, for the vast majority of them."

However, when pushed further, Arteta acknowledged that some of his players are unable to advance beyond a certain stage.

"Once again, figuring out a new way to do it." I'm going to challenge them again. Putting others next to them in an attempt to drive them again.

"Some of them will reach a point where you can't drive them any further. You want to develop them, but you can't."

As stated by football.london in January, Arteta's side is still interested in Yves Bissouma, a Brighton midfielder who is an Arsenal supporter and is still in touch with Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Magahales from their playing days at Lille.

Bissouma, who has the same agent as Pepe, is seen as a long-term midfield partner for Thomas Partey, with Arsenal's central midfield due to be reduced this summer as Dani Ceballos returns to Real Madrid.
