Ole confirms key Man Utd star has suffered ligament damage, in race to be fit for Europa League …

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided conflicting information about Harry Maguire's ankle injury.

Manchester United's 3-1 win over Aston Villa was marred by Harry Maguire's injury. Unfortunately, the skipper's streak of playing every single minute of Premier League action will come to an end.

The main problem, however, was his availability for our Europa League final.

Simply put, the majority of Manchester United's new defenders give me fits because they're all too inconsistent. Maguire must be fit if we are to give ourselves the best chance of beating Villareal.

Before United's game yesterday, Ole would meet with the media and announce that the main United player had sustained ankle ligament damage – but no fracture was present.

He's now in a sprint against the clock to be ready for our Europa League final...

When it comes to accidents, Solskjaer is notoriously difficult to read. My best bet is that we will not see Maguire in the Premier League again. However, I believe he is on track to play in the Europa League final at this stage.

Obviously, this is subject to change. All it takes is a minor loss here or a minor niggling injury there, and our best defender is unexpectedly unavailable for our biggest game of the season.

Right now, it's just a case of crossing your fingers. We're going to need Maguire a lot because Villareal is a top team that likes to play on the front foot.

We need the Englishman's leadership skills and overall abilities to give ourselves a fighting chance.

For the time being, all Maguire can do is rest and stay focused.
