Real Madrid confirm four players missed Monday training ahead of the Chelsea trip

Four Real Madrid players did not participate in Monday's training sessions ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.

Zinedine Zidane's men have obviously not squandered their time before departing for London.

They focused on pressing and possession before finishing with a small-sided game, according to Real Madrid's official website.

Raphael Varane, Lucas Vazquez, Dani Carvajal, and Federico Valverde were absent from the training squad.

Valverde continued his COVID-19 operation, while the other three recovered inside the training facilities.

Real Madrid previously confirmed Varane's diagnosis of a right abductor muscle injury in an official statement.

The France international is expected to miss the second leg, according to Sky Sports.

Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy, on the other hand, who were not listed in the training report, most likely took part in the sessions and may be able to play in the second leg.

The two defenders did not participate in the first leg draw, and their absence was most likely one of the reasons Zidane was forced to play with a back five rather than his favored 4-3-3 formation.

Chelsea is likely to be missing just one player.

The hosts, on the other hand, are currently dealing with two injury issues: Antonio Rudiger (facial bone injury) and Mateo Kovacic (hamstring).

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Rudiger will be able to play with a protective mask in the second leg — and has already practiced wearing it.

However, the Chelsea manager acknowledged that Kovacic, who suffered a setback in training, would most likely miss the game.
