After ranking third in the Premier League in defensive record last season, this acquisition may appear to be superfluous spending. However, following the departure of David Luiz, the north London club is short at center-back, and the Brighton man will be the ideal replacement.

Mikel Arteta will benefit from the 23-year-serenity old's on the ball and ability to play through the lines. The defender has the exceptional game reading ability and can hold the ideal defensive position.

However, given the player's one year of experience in the top division, the stated sum is far too excessive. The defender has yet to make his national team debut in major tournaments. This price tag will put undue strain on the young man's shoulders.

Despite this, Arsenal needed a new center-back this summer, and Ben White will be an excellent addition. His adaptability will aid Arteta in implementing various systems and, if necessary, deploying him in midfield.
