Marc Guehi has finalized his move to Crystal Palace, departing Stamford Bridge for an undisclosed price in the region of £18 million.

Chelsea has confirmed the departure of highly-rated center-back Marc Guehi, who has signed a five-year contract with Crystal Palace.

Guehi, who impressed on loan at Swansea City last season, passed a medical with the Eagles on Thursday after Chelsea and Palace agreed on a sum of roughly £18 million.

After an impressive season at the Liberty Stadium last season, which nearly saw Swansea gain promotion back to the Premier League, the center-back was tipped to force his way into Thomas Tuchel's plans at Stamford Bridge this season.

Guehi, on the other hand, has left barely a week or two after reporting back for the start of pre-season, joining Palace on a long-term contract.

After completing his transfer to Selhurst Park, the defender told Palace's official website: "I'm overjoyed. It's a fantastic opportunity for me to join such a prestigious Premier League club. I can't wait to get started.

“I think it was the club's direction, which is a really exciting direction with the new gaffer who has come in. There are a lot of good young players here, and obviously, such a stable club with great players grabbed me and made me want to come here.

“[Patrick Vieira] expresses himself. He has a great track record as a player, as a manager, and even as a coach. He performed some pretty amazing work at Nice, and I'm really pleased to work with him."

Although Guehi's move to Palace will give him a better opportunity of playing first-team football, numerous Chelsea fans have been left upset by the club's decision to authorize his departure, with some wanting for a buy-back clause to be included in the agreement.

Football.london has compiled a list of what some Blues fans have said on social media.

As evidenced by the tweets above, numerous Chelsea fans are devastated by Guehi's departure, believing he had the potential to develop into a great player at Stamford Bridge and become a squad mainstay in the coming years.

Given how brilliantly he performed at Swansea last season, a cost of roughly £18 million appears to be a fantastic deal for Palace. The same could be said about Chelsea since Guehi only made two first-team appearances for the club.

Guehi might make his competitive debut for Palace against his former club on the first day of the 2021/22 Premier League season next month.
