According to Fabrizio Romano, a well-known journalist and transfer analyst, the Serie A heavyweights are planning a new bid for the 22-year-old after a successful loan stay last season.

“AC Milan is preparing a new approach to Manchester United for Diogo Dalot,” he tweeted.

The loan with buy option will be given again - but the loan fee will be reduced #MUFC #ACMilan Man United is looking for a loan fee of about €4/5 million, with a buy option included. Ancelotti adores him, but Real Madrid is not an option for the time being.”

Dalot has battled for first-team opportunities since moving to England in 2018, making just 35 appearances for the Red Devils in three years.

The signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50 million pushed the teenager to lower down United's pecking order, forcing him to go out on loan last season in search of regular game time.

Dalot, on the other hand, prospered after joining Milan for the entire 2020/21 season, rediscovering his greatest form at San Siro and assisting Stefano Pioli's team to a second-place finish in the top-flight standings.

His impressive performances earned him a late call-up to Portugal's Euro 2020 squad after Joao Cancelo tested positive for Covid-19, and the right-back made his senior debut as a late substitution against France.

Since a result, United fans should be concerned about the recent discovery about Dalot's future, as the Red Devils may be ready to lose an exceptionally promising young full-back.

While Wan-Bissaka is an excellent one-on-one defender, the 23-year-old has limited offensive abilities, which significantly limits United's ability to make major forays forward down the right flank.

As a result, United has been heavily linked with a move for Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier in recent weeks, but they may already have the ideal option within the club.

Selling Dalot may be a choice that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. come to regret in the future, and the Norwegian tactician may be laying his own grave by allowing the highly-rated gem to leave.
