Man United could move for €70m signing after Varane – In discussion ‘at this moment’

According to reports in Portugal, Manchester United is considering trying to buy Sporting prodigy, Nuno Mendes, this summer.

Today's edition of A Bola includes a report indicating that, following Alex Telles' recent injury, the Red Devils are considering adding a new left-back to their roster.

The club is still unsure how long the Brazilian will be out, and with Luke Shaw being their sole option for the position, Mendes' name has been reintroduced.

Manchester United has known the 19-year-old for a long time, which is why A Bola claims he is "highly referenced" at Old Trafford, with Red Devils executives "well aware" of how much it would need to recruit him this summer.

According to A Bola, Manchester City, who previously denied their interest in the youngster, has not ruled out signing him yet. However, in order to make that investment, they must first earn sales, which is why an attempt would be made only near the conclusion of the summer window.

That gives Manchester United an advantage, as the club's board is debating the need for another left-back "right now." Nuno Mendes is protected by a €70 million release clause, and the tabloid claims that only an amount near to that figure will persuade the Lions to trade him immediately.

Making a €70 million signing to address a very minor injury loss makes little sense, and its evident Sporting is attempting to re-establish Nuno Mendes' name.

However, the child is incredibly brilliant, and while €70 million is certainly too expensive, they will most likely obtain a large amount for him sooner or later.
