Report: Arsenal set to make surprise signing of £34m-rated Premier League striker

Arsenal appears to be on the verge of making a sensational bid for a Premier League striker.

The Gunners have begun to finalize deals in the form of Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga, and they are not stopping there.

The Sun reports that Arsenal is the frontrunner to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Arsenal, West Ham, and Tottenham have all expressed interest in the 23-year-old, but it appears that Chelsea is willing to allow their attacker to go to bitter rivals Arsenal.

According to reports, Chelsea is willing to sanction an initial loan agreement with an obligation to buy Abraham next season for about £40 million if he makes a particular number of appearances during his loan period.

On the transfer market, he is valued at £34.2 million, thus £40 million seems like a fair price for a player of his caliber, age, and nationality.

Arsenal was rumored to be looking for a new striker this summer, with Eddie Nketiah slated to leave. Alexandre Lacazette has a year left on his contract and might be moved on if a suitable offer comes through.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is interested in Abraham, but no official proposal has been lodged and conversations have not progressed, as The Sun reported.

Abraham has fallen out of favor with new manager Thomas Tuchel, but he has a strong goal-scoring record in England.

He scored 26 goals in 40 appearances while on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship. Last season, he scored 15 goals in 25 starts and 9 substitute appearances for Chelsea under Lampard.

He's also incredibly strong in the air, standing at 6ft 3′ and averaging 2.2 aerial duels won per 90 minutes across his career - well outpacing Aubameyang (1.2), Lacazette (0.9), and Nketiah (0.5). (0.4).
